Planning

Each week the room leaders gather information from children’s key persons and carefully plan activities to support children’s next steps and incorporate their personal interests.

Resources

We have a vast range of resources to help the children to learn, and these cover many different areas such as number, colour, small world, pretend play, large construction, science and creativity. Some of our best loved resources include a puppet theatre, funky junk percussion dustbin and books of all types including fiction and non-fiction. We have a computer that enables us to watch and listen to DVD’s as well as to play interactive games, a home corner stocked with everything you need to make lunch, wash clothes, iron them, take a baby for a walk and put it to bed. We have an extensive range of dressing up outfits to aid the imagination when playing, and a huge array of modelling, painting and gluing resources.

Free painting is available in all rooms all day together with writing implements and gluing. Inside we are able to bring in a lot of gross motor skill resources especially if the weather is persistently bad and won’t allow us to spend a lot of time outside. These resources include tunnels, obstacle course hoops to crawl through, balancing beams, tactile pads to walk across, and   giant climbing and balancing set designed to assist in helping children to climb and balance.

We encourage children to be autonomous regarding making choices and decisions of what resources they want.  It is their learning environment and we support them in making decisions regarding where they want to play using the resources they have chosen.

Outside the garden is split into roughly four areas.  Firstly the woodland walk where children can run amongst the trees and shrubs and make dens or play hide and seek and play in the mud kitchen. This area also has a digging patch of soil so it is a great place to dig for worms and creepy crawlies. A further area houses the covered  outdoor classroom which also includes tyre swing and slide.

On the grassed and all weather surface are  we offer a huge variety of activities including football, basket ball, balancing beams, a roller coaster ride, bats and balls, bikes and push along’s, together with a large climbing frame  and covered sandpit that stays outside all year round.

Finally we have an area set aside for our growing of vegetables and flowers activities. We have planted many things and watched them grow and develop and then have eaten them after. Items grown regularly include potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes, courgettes, beans, sprouts and peppers.

At all times we aim to provide a very wide variety of activities and to make the learning process as much fun as possible. We are always open to suggestions from outside organisations and parents and welcome any contribution they can make.
